I’m guessing that you clicked on this because you, my friend, like avocados.
Maybe even love avocados.
This is why I’m here to teach you how to make the best avocado toast. Are you ready to have your taste buds blown away? Let’s go.
WHOA WHOA before we really start do you have the most important thing other than an avocado and some bread? If you said cutting board, then you’re correct. And you deserve a personalized cutting board for getting that correct. And I love mine from Forest Decor. Get your customized cutting board here.
Ingredients for 1 piece of avocado toast:
- 1 slice of bread
- 1/2-3/4 of an avocado
- 1/4 small fresh lemon/ 1 tbsp of lemon juice
- 1-4 tbsps red pepper flakes, depending on how spicy you want it
- a sprinkle or 2 of salt, test the mash to see if you need more salt
- for onions just how much you want, finely chop them. I usually go 1/2 of a small onion or 1/4th of a medium-large onion.
- 1 tbsp of oregano
- 1/2-1 tbsp of any other spice
- egg(optional)
Step 1: Bread
Of course, you need bread for avocado toast. Just put your bread in the toaster while you do the other steps. If you don’t have a toaster, you can always use a mini oven, air fryer, or the good old stove. Just toast it in a pan, and you’ll be ready to go.
If you don’t want to toast your bread uh… it’s going to get soggy. But you do you?
(I personally use whole wheat bread, because it’s healthier and crunchier.)
Step 2: Cutting and Scooping
You can use how much avocado you prefer, usually, for one bread I use 1/2 an avocado, and for a 2 bread sandwich, I use 3/4 of the avocado.
Once you’ve figured out how much you’re using, cut the avocado and scoop it up into a bowl.
The next step is where we go deep into the secrets of making the best avocado toast.
Step 3: Mash time
Get some fresh lemons or lemon juice. Red pepper flakes. Salt. Oregano if you would like. Onions are optional too!
And get some other spices to add if you would like. But first, mash the avocado only so that it has a guacamole texture.
Then add all the extras, after that, mash it up and mix it some more.
measurements:
- 2-3 tbsp of lemon juice
- 1-4 tbsps red pepper flakes, depending on how spicy you want it
- a sprinkle or 2 of salt, test the mash to see if you need more salt
- for onions just add how much you want, and finely chop them. I usually go 1/2 of a small onion or 1/4th of a medium-large onion.
- 1 tbsp of oregano
- 1/2-1 tbsp of any other spice
** ALL THESE MEASUREMENTS ARE FOR 1/2 OF AVOCADO
Step 4(optional). Garlic for a kick
I saw this tip somewhere on Pinterest(I’m also on the cooking side of Pinterest, for some reason).
But you get a garlic clove and rub it all over your toast. This gives it a tangy feeling and honestly has a good kick to it. Just be careful not to do too much, since my tongue got a bit irritated from the amount of garlic I rubbed on the bread. And it was a pain to deal with for the week.
Step 5: Spread the avocado mash on your bread
Now all you gotta do is get your toasted bread out. (or your untoasted, but don’t get mad at me if it gets all soggy and mushy).
Now spread the avocado mash we just made onto the bread so it’s equal everywhere. If you want to top it with some salt or red pepper flakes, go ahead!
(I sometimes eat avocado toast with cheese on top.)
Step 6(optional):
If you would like to make this avocado toast even healthier, add an omelet on top! It goes with all the flavors, and it makes it even more filling.

Step 7: Eat! Voila, you’re done!
And that my friends, is how you make the best avocado toast. It may not seem like much, but honestly is great for busy mornings or a quick snack.
Sometimes, I just eat the mash by itself without any bread, or I spread it on Ritz crackers instead.
Conclude
This recipe is great for packed lunches, if you don’t want the bread becoming mushy you can pack the bread and avocado mash separately. Or eat them with Ritz crackers instead.
You can also make a whole sandwich, with meat, cheese, veggies, and maybe some mayo.
(Also, if this isn’t the best avocado toast you’ve ever had, either you’re doing it wrong or, hmm no that’s the only reason). I will not be accepting any lawsuits if this toast isn’t up to your taste.
